Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins.
As a teacher, I am required to plan ahead for every lesson. That’s okay but the part that enervates me is stating my behavioural objectives i.e., what I expect the learner to be able to do after the lesson. How am I supposed to know? Learning is accumulation of knowledge; so why expect actions from the learner?
I think recent personal experiences have cleared my doubts. I’ve decided to become a student myself and open up myself to learning. As I move from book to book, I get this disturbing and restless feeling. What I thought I knew became lies in the light of fresh knowledge. Disturbing indeed; I sleep with the words and awake to meet them, I walk and the very same words keep me company. I eat but true satisfaction doesn’t even come from the food. Then I say to myself, ‘change has to come.’ I act on the new-found truth, alas the joy of living returns, and I feel like I am soaring!
Permit me to say that any learning that keeps you comfortable in your present estate is no learning at all. New knowledge should challenge the old, cause a change of attitude which will eventually lead to an Action. Yes, you must do something as proof of knowledge. No matter how little the action, it goes to justify knowledge gained.
Most times, the problem is not with the material nor the teacher but the student. It takes an open, desperate and resolute heart to learn. Even King Solomon advised his son to attend to his father’s words and incline his heart to them. It doesn’t matter what you are learning: health, spirituality, it works the same way.
There is no better learning than from the Good Teacher, Jesus Christ. So join us on the #65me challenge; and if you are already on it, make sure you attend to the words so that you could daily renew your mind and act what you see from The Book – the very Book that testify of Jesus Christ, hope of the world – The Bible.
