I know this word “Love” is one of the most popular words used and wanted in the whole world. Everyone uses the word, “Love,” and everyone needs “Love.” Nobody can deny the fact that at a certain point in his life he has not had the urge to love someone, something or somewhere, or has actually searched for love. In fact most of us still search for what we call “TRUE LOVE” till today. But what can we say True Love is? How can we define it? In my own words, I refer to the phrase True Love as Real Love.
LOVE according to Oxford Dictionary defines a warm, kind feeling or a sexual passion or desire but let’s put that aside for now. Let’s see what the Bible has to say about Love. CHECK IT OUT!
“Love never gives up;
Love cares more for others than self;
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have;
Love doesn’t strut;
Love doesn’t have a swelled head;
Love doesn’t force itself on others;
Love is not rude
Love puts up with anything
1 Corinthians 13.
The reason why I said we should leave the Dictionary explanation aside for some while is because I wanted us to judge Love from what is said by God, and not by our understanding.
If we read with our full attention, we would notice that the Bible never described Love as a feeling instead Love is a choice we make, it is what we have and do. When we love, we make a choice not to ever give up on anybody; a choice to care for others more than we care for ourselves, a choice not to be rude to them; a choice to put up with anything, a choice not to keep score of the sins of others even when we feel like doing so..,A CHOICE to keep loving them no matter what may happen.
The Bible also never described Love as a sexual passion/desire because it isn’t. Like I always say: LOVE IS NOT SEX and SEX IS NOT LOVE”. They are two different things which we “YOUTHS” have refused to understand! Having Sex with a guy/girl does’t make he/she love you and loving someone doesn’t mean you should have sex with the person. God meant Sex for a different special purpose.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?
Ephesians 5:3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.
Sex is a gift to the married ones to enjoy intimacy and use it for reproduction purposes but he asks us youths who are not married to keep ourselves clean because our body is a temple where He dwells, He asks us to stay away from Pre-marital Sex not because it is not good but because Sex is good when done at the right time with that special one you choose to spend the rest of your life with. Sex will be dicussed in one of my next articles!
Like a poem about LOVE my kid sister told me about which I totally agree with:
“The Word is LOVE;
Many avoid it cos they say it hurts;
Many reject it cos they say it is a waste of time;
And some say its COMPLICATED;
While some embrace it;
Some live for it;
Jesus came to preach Love.
GOD IS LOVE (I.E GOD=LOVE)
So now do me a favour, read the whole poem again, replacing the word “Love” with “God” and “it” with “Him”
The truth is that the true definition of Love is found in God. It is from God we can find the basics of Real love because He is Love. He showed a great example of this Love when he gave His only Son to be sacrificed for other people’s wrong.
John 3:16- For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Have you ever imagined it like this: “Would your friend ever leave his only son to die for you?” “Would your brother ever leave his only son to die for you?” Would your nice, friendly neighbour ever leave his only son to die for you?” Would anybody ever leave his only son to die for you?” I am sure the reply would be NO! No one would ever do such a thing for you but God did this great act and gave His Son as a sacrificial Lamb to atone your sins.
Jesus, His Son also didn’t die for us because he was told to do so, but because he CHOSE to die for you. He CHOSE to do so because He loved you and their ACT OF LOVE was not out of what THEY FELT at that moment but what THEY HAD for each and everyone of us. They had LOVE IN THEM. If their act of Love was done out of feeling, maybe Jesus would not have died for us because those who he died for didn’t love him nor cared about Him and wanted Him dead but He went on to die for us because what he had for us could not be taken away by what he saw or the temporary feelings he had. HIS LOVE FOR US NEVER ENDS.
DEAR FRIEND, DEAR READER, God loves you so much and the love you have been searching for can be found in God, that empty space you have in your heart can be filled by the love of God. Choose God. Choose Love. Choose Life.
