One Word

If there is one word I’ll give to my generation, it will be to Pay it Forward always.

I have been testing this principle, and it seems to work. Thing is sometimes we are very impatient to look to receiving our reward in the future; we want it now. Here and now. But the universe isn’t structured that way. The world isn’t fashioned that way. It is fashioned for sowing and reaping. It is fashioned that men will plant today and reap tomorrow, suffer today and enjoy tomorrow. That we touch lives today and have our lives touched tomorrow.

Recently, I saw two people who suffered with me on some project some time back. It was as though their names had been forgotten. But suddenly, Oga pulled out their CVs.

“Ike, where is the CV of that lady who assisted us at one time?”

Clearly, oga likes to ask impossible questions, but today, I had the answer. And so, I pulled out the CV from where I saw it was kept – by him.

Two of them got jobs.

Told me something – Ike, always pay it forward. Do as though you are doing for yourself. The reward might not be now; that doesn’t mean it is not sure. The reward is surely sure. Just do it, and well.

I’m learning to pay it forward.

P.s. This is part of the book on my NYSC experience – Platoon 11.
