One remarkable thing I took home from hearing my mentor, Dr. Frenzo, share the story of his journey to significance is the realization that reading is part of what makes a man successful. But not reading any and every kind of books; reading books by great thinkers, men like Tom Peters, Jim Collins, Jim Rohn. Men who show you a world of possibilities and excellence.
I have moved from listening to Jim Rohn, to reading and watching Jim Collins speak to listening to Tom Peters, and all I could see was passion for what they do. These men are passionate for excellence in their craft, and you’d agree with me if I say that they indeed have become excellent in what they do.
Collins (2003) recently inspired me to make a ‘stop doing’ list: basically a list of things I want to STOP doing in the new year, so I can create time to do the very things I should be doing.
Peters (2009) advises to:
1. For public speakers, when giving a speech, don’t just look everywhere with your eyes focused on nobody. Focus on someone and look him in the eye, others will feel the connection and it will be as though you are actually looking them in the eye.
2. Ask, “What do you think?’ as often as you can. This is for everyone who wants to influence people. What do you think? is a question of value. It shows that you value the opinion of those around you. People want to feel valued; a whole world of opportunity and support can emanate from that simple question, what do you think? Ask it often!
3. Listening. We do have a short listening span. But we need to listen more, and talk less. Train yourself to listen to what people have to say. You may have the answers, but hear others out. People have something to say, and there is so much we can gain from the world if we would just listen more.
Keep doing something!

p.p.s. A dear friend recommended the book Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. You should read that book. Mind opening!
