No More Fruitless Efforts (Luke 5:1-7)
by Pastor E A Adeboye
Now it happened that while Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret (Sea of Galilee), with the people crowding all around Him and listening to the word of God; 2 that He saw two boats lying at the edge of the lake, but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little distance from the shore. And He sat down and began teaching the crowds from the boat. 4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon [Peter], “Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch [of fish].” 5 Simon replied, “Master, we worked hard all night [to the point of exhaustion] and caught nothing [in our nets], but at Your word I will [do as you say and] lower the nets [again].” 6 When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets were [at the point of] breaking; 7 so they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats [with fish], so that they began to sink. Luke 5:1-7
God loves fruitfulness. His first commandment to man in Gen 1:27-28, after he blessed him, was “Be fruitful and multiply!”
God loves children, because they are His
Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb a reward. Psalm 127:3
People were bringing children to Him so that He would touch and bless them, but the disciples reprimanded them and discouraged them [from coming]. 14 But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and He said to them, “Allow the children to come to Me; do not forbid them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever does not receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”
God also loves children because they know how to praise God. Adults usually think of their position and status before praising and dancing to God.
But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful and miraculous things that Jesus had done, and heard the [a]boys who were shouting in [the porticoes and courts of] the temple [in praise and adoration], “Hosanna to the Son of David (the Messiah),” they became indignant 16 and they said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus replied to them, “Yes; have you never read [in the Scripture], ‘Out of the mouths of infants and nursing babies You have preparedand provided praise for Yourself’?” – Matthew 21:15-16
“He who offers a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving honors Me;
And to him who orders his way rightly [who follows the way that I show him],
I shall show the salvation of God.” Psalm 50:23
God hates fruitlessless, he doesn’t want to see barrenness in any form (Luke 13:6-9). When God saw a tree that wasn’t bearing fruits, he asked them to cut it down. God hates abortion; God hates miscarriage, in human beings and in animals (Ex. 23:26; Phil 1:6).
Anyone considered barren is taking in this month and there will be no miscarriage, and there will be no still birth in Jesus name.
The only time God allows barrenness is as punishment. The only woman we hear about in the Bible who died barren was Michal, wife of David, who died barren (2 Samuel 6:20-23).
Rachel was barren (Gen 29:31), but God remembered her. God will remember somebody today!
Luke 18:10-14: The best prayer a sinner can pray is, “God have mercy on me.” If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, ask God for mercy so he can save your soul.
How do I know there’ll be no more fruitless efforts?
- Because you will cooperate with God. The fruitless efforts of Peter ended because he decided to cooperate with God.
When God is on your side, it is impossible to fail (Psalm 23:6).
Pray: You are fruitful Vine, and I rely on you.” As you abide with Jesus Christ, He’ll supply whatever you need so that you can become fruitful.
One who keeps failing exams is mentally barren.
The lecture who doesn’t publish papers in reputable journals is considered academically barren.
Professor Emmanuel will help you out in Jesus name.
The moment you begin to cooperate with God, you become financially fruitful.
Pray: Father: I’ll cooperate with you, make me fruitful!
- There’ll be no more fruitless efforts because you obey Him to the letter.
Peter said, “I have fished all night and I have caught nothing, nevertheless at thy word.”
Declaration: it doesn’t matter what the situation may be like, this is your night!
Let us learn to take God by His word. That’s one of the reasons God loves children. It is easy for children to trust God.
Prayer: Father, I promise you, I will obey, please make me fruitful.
- There’ll be no more fruitless efforts, because you will enter a covenant with God (Luke 5:11).
Hannah entered into a covenant with God. When you make up your mind to be a covenant partner, you become fruitful in all areas of your life. Once you surrender everything to God, he takes over your brain.
Because you have entered into a covenant with God, everything you touch will prosper.
That kind of success that people will ask, you, How do you do it, will be your portion in Jesus name.
Declaration: Father, make me your partner, so that I will never fail again.
Very soon, my nick name shall be Baba olowo.
- There’ll be no more fruitless efforts, because God himself will decree your fruitfulness.
God says to multiply. The plan of God for your life is not to manage (John 10:10).
Declaration: In the name that is above every other name, you will not die poor; you will not die a tenant in Jesus name.
Declaration: I will never borrow again in Jesus name.
When God decrees a thing, who can stop it? (Gen 18:9-14)
Laughter can begin as an individual laughter, then become a family laughter, a town, laugher. Your laughter will be a national laughter in Jesus name.

Biologically, how do you want your children?
Spiritually, how mighty do you want to be for God?

Career wise, how far?
Write them down and pray over them NOW>
Declaration : You will never fail again! In your career, you’ll reach the top. In every area of your life, you’ll be the best.
If there is ever any miracle that God can do for any man, He’ll do it for you. The Almighty God will perform wonders through you. This very night, in all your families, he’ll terminate barrenness. He’ll give you wonderful children, and your children will be greater than you! Your joy will know no bounds in Jesus name.
God will lay both hands on you tonight. Be fruitful in Jesus name!
