So I read a good book, One Thing, by Gary Keller and his friend. I learned so much from it that I feel I’m ready for 2017. You know those books you read, then ask yourself why you hadn’t read it a year ago.
Please enjoy a few points from it.
1. Go small.
Make getting to the heart of things the heart of your approach.
Extraordinary results are determined by how narrow you can make your focus.
You need to be doing fewer things with more effects, rather than doing more things with side effects.
Go small, stare at one thing. That’s the point.
2. To get extraordinary results, create a domino effect in your life.
When you see someone who has a lot of knowledge, they learned it over time. When you see someone who has a lot of skills, they developed them over time. When you see someone who has done a lot, they accomplished it over time. When you see someone who has a lot of money, they earned it over time. The key is over time. Success is built sequentially. It’s one thing at a time.
3. Success leaves clues.
Achievers always work from a clear sense of priority.
Apply the 80/20 principle, then get to the one most important thing. Understand that 20% of your effort yields 80% of your results.
So, if doing the most important thing is the most important thing, why would you try to do anything else at the same time?
It’s a great question.
Extraordinary results require focused attention and time.
4. When you think big, you become big.
Let your goals be big and specific. Low goals don’t require extraordinary actions so they rarely lead to extraordinary results.
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there. – Will Rogers.
5. On purpose
Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. George Bernard Shaw
Happiness happens on the way to fulfillment. Don’t be a begging bowl.
Happiness happens when our daily actions fulfill a bigger purpose.
Purpose is the ultimate source of personal strength – strength of conviction and strength to persevere.
Sticking with something long enough is a fundamental way requirement for achieving extra-ordinary results.
When what you do matches your purpose, your life feels in rhythm, and the path you beat with your feet seems to match the sound in your head and heart.
6. Great success shows up when time is devoted every day to becoming great.
To achieve extra ordinary results and experience greatness, time block these three things in the following order:
A. Time block your time off.
B. Time block your ONE thing
C. Time block your planning time.
Protect your time block. Never move them.
Do a brain dump to protect your time block.
The three commitments to make you a master:
A. Follow the path of mastery
B. Move from Entrepreneurial ( doing things by default) to Purposeful living
C. Live the accountability cycle – take responsibility, get a mentor and a coach.
7. Live a life of no regrets.
Be able to say, I’m glad I did, not I wish I had.
When you don’t know what matters most, anything makes sense.
Put yourself together and your world falls into place.
To put yourself together, start from purpose, then outline your priorities, then block out time for them to ensure you’re productive.
Have a significant 2017!
