“Action is the key to success. Procrastination willtempt, fun and games will call, and people will interrupt, but the secret of achievement is to FOCUS. Isolate what you want to do, get started, and DO IT WELL.”
Young men nowadays have many distractions – the internet which is chief of them all.
The reason why many of us lack focus is the inability to accurately discern the future. If the future were clearer to many, I bet you they’d be more focused than they are today.
There is something about knowing you’ll get Y if you did X. It is naturally motivating. While I was in primary school, my dad instituted a cash prize for finishing the year in the first, second, and third positions. This prize greatly motivated me to do my best in class. I usually had my eyes on the cash prize, and once I handed in my report card, I demanded for my cash prize. It was that good.
In secondary school, the rate was higher and more juicy. It even motivated me further. It wasn’t easy to top the class. The principles were different. That you were born smart had nothing to do with life on that lane, you had to burn the mid-night candle if you were to excel. Took me 3 years to understand how things worked, and once I did and got into full gear, it was a free way for me. But again, the motivation was the prize and that generated some level of focus within me.
Even in the university, my school had an interesting method of rewarding excellent students; you got 250% of the regular Russian monthly stipends. This was genuine motivation to put in one’s best. However, the higher you go, the more difficult for cash prizes to motivate you, at least in my opinion. There has to be something more fulfilling, a bigger picture of the future, perhaps. It is your duty and my duty to paint that picture for ourselves as no one will paint it for us.
It is the exciting picture of your future that will steer your heart in the right direction. Knowing that you want to leave a legacy for generations unborn might make you dig your head further into the mine of wisdom in search of golden pebbles for life and living. It is the future you believe that will birth the focus you desire. No future, no focus.
This is for me. This is for me to go back to my dream room and see if I have a picture up there. What future do you desire? What are you laying down to secure that future?
Ike Amadi, wake up!
What I say to myself, I say to you, wake up!
